Consider/Approve Bid for School Buses

Background Information :

In addition to advertising, we solicited bids for the purchase of three (3) school buses (specifications attached), which will be budgeted in the General Purpose School Fund for the 2013 – 2014 fiscal year. The purchase of three (3) school buses is within the replacement schedule as established by the Transportation Department. We received bids from two (2) companies, which are summarized on the bid request tally sheet. Mid-South Bus Center did not submit a bid. Individual bids were as follows:

Central States Bus Sales, Inc. (Inline V6) – $85,456.00 each
Cumberland (Inline V6) – $85,427.14 each

Bids submitted from both companies met specifications. The Transportation Department recommends the Inline V6 since it will get better mileage and maintenance costs are not as expensive.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the bid submitted by Cumberland for the Inline V6 school bus for $85,427.14 each.  In the 2013 – 2014 fiscal year budget, a total of three (3) buses will budgeted at a total cost of $256,281.42. With this approval, it is the intent of the Board and management that no liability will be incurred, nor a purchase order issued, until the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2013.
